In October 2018 COSE joined the first gBETA Social Impact cohort, run by gener8tor with the American Family Insurance Institute for Corporate and Social Impact. gBETA is a free accelerator for early-stage companies: seven weeks of mentoring and workshops, with no fees and no equity taken. This was its first program for social-impact companies, held at the Spark building on East Washington Avenue in Madison.

At the time, COSE was building time-lapse imaging instruments for classrooms alongside the clinostat; the second prototype was being wired that same month.

The program also came with a year of office space at StartingBlock, Madison's entrepreneurship hub in the same building. It was the company's first workspace of its own: a room of workbenches where the time-lapse imagers and early clinostats were built and tested.
