Collaborative Science Environment
Research instruments for gravitational biology.
Clinostats and time-lapse imaging systems for labs studying how plants, cells and small organisms respond to gravity. Designed and built in Madison, Wisconsin.
Instruments
Built to order, designed to be serviceable

SciSpinner Max
Simulated microgravity with independently controlled frame and core axes, onboard imaging and environmental monitoring, and a motion sensor module that measures time-averaged gravity directly at the sample.

SciSpinner Duo
A smaller, simpler clinostat for teaching laboratories and single-axis experiments, with a clear sample chamber driven by a single motorized axis.
Specifications coming soon
FlashLapse
A research-grade time-lapse imaging system for plant growth and classroom experiments, with four camera pods arranged around a central sample stage.
Specifications coming soon
Built for your experiment
Open-frame clinostats, custom sample fixtures and instrument variants for experiments that need something beyond our standard configurations, developed with the labs that use them.

Who we work with
University and government research groups
COSE instruments are used by university and government research groups in the United States and India, with further international deliveries under way. Current applications include cell and tissue culture, plant gravitropism, small-organism models and ground controls for spaceflight experiments.
Collaborative Science Environment Inc. is a Wisconsin benefit corporation. Our control software is open source under the GPL, customers receive CAD files for sample fixtures, and every instrument ships with full technical documentation. About the company →
Clinostat simulator added to the Tools page
A browser-based simulator of the SciSpinner Max: set the frame and core speeds, watch the instrument turn, and see the motion sensor reading, time-averaged ⟨g⟩ and sphere coverage before a run.
SciSpinner analysis tool now available online
The g-level analysis page that ships in every run folder is now hosted at cosecloud.com/tools, and software releases and other news will be posted here.
Software 1.4.0: lighting protection, LED controls, and long-run reliability
The October release keeps the chamber lighting within its power budget, redesigns the LED selector, makes the core status dot mean "camera usable", and includes reliability fixes identified during extended unattended operation. Available on request.
